Edward Bianchini Co-Owner
Edward W. Bianchini, co-owner of the Lenox Room, is the owner of Les Muscadins hotel and restaurant, located in the medieval idyllic town of Mougins, some ten miles from Cannes in the hills overlooking the picturesque Riviera.
The Philadelphia native is the only American hotelier in France. Under his direction for the past ten years, the landmark site, home to Pablo Picasso in the 1930’s, has become known as one of the most romantic hotels and finest restaurants in the South of France.
Bianchini bought what was then Le Vaste Horizon in 1986. He took two years to restore the 120-year-old property to its current state of grace. Bianchini, whose background was in construction, supervised every square-inch of the renovation.
All eight guest rooms (the one in which Picasso stayed is a junior suite), overlook the sea or village and are furnished with antiques from the rustic corners of the provinces.
According to a recent report in by Food Arts magazine, the property is impressive: "Embowered with roses, the arched exterior walls are gleaming white. The reception area is a work of art itself, with an inlaid desk, medieval oil paintings, Oriental rugs, and an improbable wrought iron swan. Rooms are welcoming with colorful pastel spreads and draperies, and modern touches including marble bathrooms."
Under the direction of chef Noel Montel, a protégé of Alain Ducasse (Chef of the Louis XV in Monte Carlo), the restaurant has become a major gastronomic destination.
An avid golfer, Bianchini has adorned the wall of the hotel’s bar with photos of American golf legend Ben Hogan. Bianchini often takes his guests on golf outings in nearby courses.
